Stock, billing and purchase in one system.
A sale at the counter moves stock, the ledger and the reorder position at the same moment.
- Point of sale
- Barcode entry, offline billing that syncs
- Branches
- Each a warehouse with its own stock
- Landed cost
- Freight and duty in the item's cost
- Implementation
- Quoted per project
The reader
This page is for more than one location, or a shop plus online, or a shop plus wholesale, where the same product, the same customer and the same stock are being managed separately in more than one place. Each branch bills on its own system, stock is consolidated weekly on a spreadsheet, and purchase decisions are made from last week's numbers.
One system
A sale at the counter is a transaction against stock and against the ledger at the same instant. That sounds obvious, and it is exactly what is missing when billing and accounts are separate systems: the sale is recorded twice, and between the two recordings your stock figure is wrong.
Wherever they buy
- At the counter
- On account
- Online
At the same instant
- Stock, per branch and in total
- The ledger
- Purchase order at each warehouse's reorder level
- One customer record
Transfers between branches are transactions too, so stock that left one shop and has not arrived at the other is visible rather than missing.
Point of sale
ERPNext includes a point-of-sale screen: item search or barcode, quick payment entry, and offline capability so billing continues if the connection drops and syncs when it returns.
Test that last property before you commit, on your own item list. Retail cannot stop because the internet has. Ask any vendor, including us, to demonstrate billing with the connection pulled.

Pricing, schemes and loyalty
Price lists per customer group, pricing rules for quantity and combination offers, time-bound promotions, and loyalty programmes where you run one.
The gain is consistency. Schemes applied by hand at three counters are applied three ways, and the difference shows up only in the margin.
Purchase and landed cost
Purchase is where retail money is actually made. Reorder levels, supplier price comparison, purchase orders against receipts, and landed cost so freight and duty end up in the item's cost rather than in a general expense.
Category-wise margin after landed cost is the report that changes buying decisions, and it is almost never available where purchase and billing are separate systems.
What it does not do
- It is not sized for one shop.
- It does not clean up your item names. Inconsistent naming across branches is the bulk of the work, and it is done before anything goes live.
- It does not go live in every branch on one day. One branch first, then the rest.
Implementation
Item master and barcodes first. Then warehouses and opening stock per branch, then one branch live before the rest.
Counter staff need training on the actual busy hour, not on a quiet afternoon. That is the only test that matters for a billing screen.
Questions
Does ERPNext have a point of sale?
Yes. ERPNext includes a point-of-sale screen with barcode entry, quick payment capture and offline billing that syncs when the connection returns. Test the offline behaviour on your own item list; that is the property that decides whether a POS survives contact with a real shop.
Can ERPNext run more than one retail branch?
Yes. Each branch is a warehouse with its own stock and its own billing, transfers between them are recorded as transactions, and the consolidated position is available without anybody compiling a spreadsheet. That consolidation is usually the reason a multi-branch retailer moves off separate billing systems in the first place.
