Tally · manufacturing

Tally for manufacturing: MRP, job work and stock that reconciles.

Material issued, returned and consumed, recorded as it moves, and a closing stock you can defend.

MRP: from the shortfall to the purchase order

What it is

Purchases and sales in Tally are accurate, because those are invoices. What happens between them is written in a shop-floor register and entered later, if at all, so the stock difference is adjusted at year end rather than explained.

The module puts those movements into Tally as vouchers. It isa Tally customisation, written in TDL, on the company you already have.

What the module does

Material's path through a unit, from the order to the books.

Failed QC goes back as a rejection. Work sent to a job worker comes back into production.

Reports

The first is the one that changes decisions: standard consumption against actual, over a quarter, either confirms your costing or tells you which process is losing material.

  • BOM against actualStandard consumption against what was used, item by item.
  • PurchaseGate entries, rate difference against the PO, pending purchase orders and their value.
  • StockLot-wise valuation, godown-wise by party, non-moving raw material, consumption.
  • Job workIssue detail, and each job worker's outstanding in material and money.

Questions

Can Tally handle bills of material?

Yes. TallyPrime supports bills of material including multi-level assemblies, and a production entry against a bill consumes the inputs and produces the output in one transaction. What the customisation adds is the shop-floor detail: process-wise costing, rejections, rework and outward job work, which standard bills of material do not cover.

Why does my Tally stock not match the physical count?

Almost always because material is moving without a transaction: production recorded late or not at all, job work material treated as gone when it left, or wastage absorbed instead of recorded.

Can Tally work out what raw material to buy?

With the module, yes. Material requirement planning takes one or more work orders through their bills of material, sets the requirement against stock in hand, re-order levels and what is pending from vendors, and shows the shortfall. The purchase order is raised from that report, to the last purchase party.

Can I see the stock lying with job workers?

Yes. Material sent on a challan stays in your stock, under that job worker, until it comes back. Their outstanding shows in material and in money, so their bill and your records agree. In a hosiery or garment unit, where the lot splits by colour and job worker, that is the garments module.

Does it work on TallyPrime?

Yes, it runs on TallyPrime, on the company you already have. If you are still on Tally.ERP 9, the upgrade comes first.

Does my data move?

No. There is no migration and no separate database. Remove the customisation and Tally is as it was.

Where does ERPNext come in?

When production needs job cards by operation and workstation, and capacity planning from them, that is ERPNext for manufacturing. The same team supports both.
