Filing the UAE VAT 201 from TallyPrime
TallyPrime files the VAT 201 to the FTA's EmaraTax portal from inside Tally: no re-typing figures into the portal. Upload and submit came in TallyPrime Release 6.2; downloading the return and reconciling it with your books came in Release 7.1.
Before you start
- A recent TallyPrime: 6.2 or later to upload, 7.1 or later to download and reconcile. A current TSS keeps you on the latest release.
- Your EmaraTax login: the e-mail address and password registered on the portal.
- The same periodicity: monthly or quarterly, set under Company Features (F11), matching what the portal has for you.
Check the return in your books
Press Alt+G (Go To), type VAT 201 and openReturn View. This is the return as your books have it, before anything goes to the portal.
Upload and submit
- Press Alt+Z (Exchange) and choose Upload VAT 201 Return.
- On the VAT 201 Login screen, press B (Log In via Browser) and sign in to EmaraTax in the browser that opens.
- Back in TallyPrime, press S (Start Session). The session lasts 30 minutes.
- From the List of Return Statuses, pick the period. If periods are overdue, the oldest has to be filed first.
- The first time, press F12 (Configure) and set the Preferred Amount Type. TallyPrime keeps it for later returns.
- Press S (Submit) and confirm. TallyPrime shows the VAT reference number.
Filing a period that was already submitted opens the voluntary disclosure details instead: pick a reason, enter the date, and continue.
What the reconciliation shows
While uploading, TallyPrime compares your books with the figures the portal holds. Goods imported into the UAE (section 6) come to the portal from Customs, so the portal's figure is the final one: a difference there shows in red, and you correct it in your books or on the portal. Section 2, tourist refunds, is shown as the portal has it. A difference does not stop the upload; press V to see the reconciliation report and find the fields that differ.
The return is due within 28 days of the end of the tax period.
